About Wanderlane
Wanderlane exists because most travel advice online is quietly fake.
Search "best restaurants in Chiang Mai" or "where to stay in Barcelona" and you'll get the same fifteen places, reworded by a machine that has never eaten a meal. The photos are stock. The "hidden gems" are whatever ranked last year. Nobody actually went.
We build guides the other way around. Wanderlane started as a small studio making websites for real independent businesses — family restaurants, corner cafés, guesthouses — in cities across the world: Beirut, Barcelona, Palermo, Berlin, Da Nang, Damascus, Chiang Mai. To do that work we sat with owners, photographed their kitchens, read thousands of reviews and walked the streets. This guide is what fell out of that: a record of the places we already know are good, plus the practical travel stuff you actually need around them.
What that means for you
- Real places first. Many of the restaurants and cafés we feature have their own Wanderlane-built pages, with photos we took ourselves. When you see "Featured," that's a place we stand behind.
- Honest, not exhaustive. We'd rather tell you the six places worth your time than list sixty. We'll also tell you when a season is bad, when a thing is overrated, or when a place is best skipped.
- Free, and how we keep it that way. Some links — hotels, tours, eSIMs, insurance — are affiliate links. If you book through them we earn a small commission at no cost to you. That's the whole business model. No paywalls, no "pay to be featured," no sponsored reviews. Full disclosure here.
If a recommendation is ever wrong, out of date, or a place has closed, tell us — we fix it. Write to hello@wanderlane.co.
